Snowshoeing Through Red Squirrel Territory

American Red Squirrel, originally uploaded by perlgurl.org.

We were out snowshoeing today-a beautiful, sunny winter day-for the second time this week. How different it was. Earlier this week, it was sunny, cold and quiet. But today, it was sunny and warm and the birds and squirrels were chattering in the trees, which were covered with buds.

It couldn't possibly be spring time already, but it's certainly late winter. Maple syrup farmers are tapping their trees. And our resident red squirrel is out and about.

I love this picture. Is this the squirrel you feed in the summer?

Editor: Only in the winter when it invades the birdfeeder. We don't feed ANYTHING in the summer.

The fact that you have maple syrup farmers makes me think you live a very picturesque and old-timey existence. We've got squirrels too - the size of small cats. On the UW campus they basically own the place.
